Rushden Echo and Argus, 18th February 1898, transcribed by Kay Collins
Mr. Henry Hanger

DEATH OF A FORMER RESIDENT—The Camden News (New South Wales), which is just to hand, records the death of Mr. Henry Hanger, a native of Rushden. It appears that he died at his residence at Narellan on Dec. 2lst at the ripe old age of 81 years. The paper in question says: "Mr. Henry Hanger was a native of Northamptonshire, England, and came out to Australia at the age of 21 years. He has resided sixty years in the colony. In the early days of his career he settled at the Oaks, working at his trade, boot maker. Afterwards he left his business and started farming. He was for over 21 years a resident of The Oaks and district. Being a progressive man Mr. Hanger tried other pastures in the district, ultimately settling down at Narellan, where he has carried on dairying and agricultural pursuits until his closing hours. Mrs. Hanger survives her husband. The family of nine are all grown up and in good positions.

Note: Henry was transported in 1836 aged 20 - see Calendars of Prisoners
