by Triumph Photo. Co. Rushden

The subject of our photograph is Mr. Laurence Cox, of 91 Higham-road, Rushden, who, by a valiant deed, has earned a place on the roll of heroes.

Recognition of his heroism was tardy. Yet “All’s well that ends well,” and we are gratified to gather that Mr. Cox has received a £10 note from the Carnegie Hero Fund Trust.

In July last a lad was playing near the Wharf at Higham Ferrers, when he fell into the water, being in imminent danger of drowning when Mr. Cox, fully dressed, and but an indifferent swimmer, plunged into the water, and succeeded in saving the lad’s life.

Mr. Paragreen interested himself in the achievement, and after all these months Mr. Cox has received a very welcome recognition of his gallant act. Mr. Cox is a quiet, unassuming man, of no great physical strength, and he bears his honour very modestly. We congratulate him on his deed, and we can say, with all sincerity, that Rushden is proud of him.
