John Cooke was also a noted musician. He was the musical director with the Rushden Players in 1938, and was deputy musical director of the Operatic Society in 1947. He served on the committee for several years, before his untimely death.

MR. J. W. COOKE

MR. J. W. COOKE, grocery department manager, Rushden Society, died on Monday last week.

He entered Kettering Hospital on the previous Thursday for treatment estimated to take about ten days but his condition worsened at the week-end, and he failed to recover. Mr. Cooke started work as a junior in the grocery department and served in that department for the whole 46 years of his working life.
