Report for year ending 30 April 1900

Mixed School  “This school continues to merit its reputation for good organisation and discipline, the teaching is marked by high aim and intelligent method, the supervision of the Head Teacher is thorough and a very creditable standard of attainment is uniformly reached.”

If a grant under Art 101 of the Code is claimed the directions given in the enclosed form should be attended to.

R Newell is recognised under Art 33.

It appears from F Clarke’s medical certificate that he has not been successfully vaccinated.  Until this operation has been effectively performed, this Board cannot, both for his own sake, and in the interests of the children attending the school, consent to his engagement.

The certificate of Miss Source became due on the 8th July 1900, if she continued in this school till that date and will be issued upon the application of the School Board.

H M I Report

“I am much pleased with the tone and work of this school.  Its high state of efficiency reflects the greatest credit on the head master and his staff.  Brush drawing is being taught with encouraging success and I should be glad if the boys could have some manual instruction in Woodwork.  The floor of the school needs attention.  The playground is in a bad state at the entrance and by the girls’ offices and I should be glad if it could be asphalted.  A proper receptacle should be provided for the ashes.”

Mr Hewitt will receive his certificate in due course.

L Norman, V Carrington and F M Scott do not appear to have been presented to H M Inspector for approval under Art 33.

Form 17a
Inspector’s Report

Mixed School  “This department maintains a very high level of efficiency and all subjects of instruction are treated with skill and intelligence.  The order is excellent and the helpful supervision of the able Head Teacher is well in evidence.  The unsatisfactory condition of the girls’ playground should receive the early attention of the School Board.

The additional attendances claimed under Article 12 (b) of the Code have not been taken into account as form 62 does not appear to have been forwarded to H M Inspector.

The Mixed School accommodation is at present insufficient for the average attendance.  The attendance should be reduced or the accommodation increased.  Your attention is requested to Article 85 (a) of the Code and to the enclosed form 69.

I am to return F Dring’s medical certificate and to request an answer to question 4.

The certificate of Miss Watson will, unless the Inspector should withdraw his favourable report, be issued upon the application of the School Board after her completion of 18 months recorded service.  The exact dates of such recorded service should be given in the application.”
