School opened after holidays.

Owing to reduction of staff, school has had to be re-organised.  There are now three senior classes instead of four.  This has necessitated a redrafting of the timetable.  A provisional timetable has been drawn up and this will be in operation for a month, at the end of which time whole question will be analysed.

A Mishap occurred to Geoffrey Badham at 3.5pm.  A workman, Mr Fuller, employed in relaying girls playground was using boys’ lavatory.  The lad pushed open the door which the workman immediately closed.  The little finger of the boys right hand was caught in the door and was lacerated.  Head teacher attended to the lad and afterwards conveyed him home.  Notification was sent to the Office.

School re-opened today – a fortnight after stipulated date on account of outbreak of war.  School met at normal time in morning and afternoon.

School opened at 8.30am and finished at 12.30pm.  School opened at 1pm for evacuated children and closed at 5pm.  This arrangement is being operated for a month, native children meeting from 8.30am to 12.30pm and the immigrant children from 1pm to 5 pm.

Twenty four boys in charge of Mr Dodge and Mr Bates visited the underground workings of the Iron Ore Company at Finedon.

Several children availed themselves of the opportunity and privilege of attending the Ascension service at St Mary’s Church.  They all returned by 9.30 and thus received their marks.

Thirty boys in charge of Mr Dodge and Mr Bates again visited this afternoon the surface workings of the Iron Ore Company at Wellingborough and Finedon.

The evacuees, who have been using this school in the afternoons since last September, ceased attendance here this afternoon.  They are now being accommodated in Baptist assembly rooms, Boot and Shoe School and catholic Hall.  This move will enable local children here putting in normal hours at school.

In accordance with instructions re holidays it was arranged for Head teacher, Mr Dodge Miss Winter and miss Ruff to be on duty during 1st and 2nd weeks of August, Mr Allen, mr bates, Miss Drage and Miss Hall for the 3rd and 4th weeks.

Last evening the school building was seriously damaged by enemy action so much so that the building will be unusable for a considerable period.

Arrangements have been made for Class Junior 1 to meet normally in the handicraft centre.  The other seven classes are being accommodated at South End School and will be attending in the afternoon.  In the meantime possibility of being accommodated in various halls in the town is being explored.

Junior 1 commenced at 9,30 this morning in accordance with Office instructions.  This will be the time of opening during Dec and jan.

The seven classes at South End School finished for Xmas at 4.15pm.

The class accommodated at the handicraft centre finished for Xmas at 12 noon.

Air raid warning sounded last evening at 7.40pm.  All Clear sounded at 2 am.  Thus school (handicraft room) commenced at 10am.

Immunisation against diphtheria was carried out this afternoon.

Empire Day was celebrated in the school today.  Message from Lord [Blediscloe] at an assembly of seniors, who took part in suitable prayers and hymns. 

Juniors also assembled and a talk was given by the Head Teacher.

This afternoon a handsome chiming timepiece was presented to Mr Allen who is retiring from teaching at the end of the month.  The gift was subscribed to by the staff, past members of the staff and scholars.
