Rushden Research Group: Newton Rd Infant School Gallery


This picture came to us as c1894 Newton Road School. All around the walls are pictures painted by the children: Animals, a castle, a flower, teapot, kettle, saucepan, ducks. Each child has a windmill on their desk (see right for more detail), and some doll's house funiture is laying along the window ledges.

This is a copy of a photograph with no caption, but numbers written on five children indicate
there was perhaps a list of their names on the back of the original! Perhaps siblings - may be Class XI

Chris Prusakowski who lived in Balmoral Avenue, and now lives in Norfolk has sent some names for this photo:

Chris is the lad on the right in a dark jumper.

The girl in the middle looking towards the camera is Sharon Jones of Barkers Close.

The girl facing Sharon is Camilla Munro of Orchard Place.

Chris also tells us the teachers were Miss Webb and Miss Baker.

Mr Muncie had helped to rig up the Maypole in the school hall.
