The caption reads: October 1960 - Birchall Road Grocery - Kettering & Wellingborough District Shop Competition - 1st prize in district and area Championship Cup - Manager Mr D W Shouler, 1st Assistant D Cumberpatch
A second copy tells us they often won the cup for "Best Shop" in the
Rushden Co-op's own competition. The staff are named left to right as
Phylis Fensome, Pam Lumbers, Edith Dunmore, Betty Coleman, and
Back row Dennis Shouler, John Brawn, Morris Slater.

Extract from a longer article 1941
Dennis Ekins, a driver in the R.A.S.C. joining up in May 1940 a short time after his marriage. He is a keen cricketer and footballer, and his civilian work was at the Birchall-road Co-operative grocery store.

There was also a sub-Post Office inside the store.
