Lance-Sergeant Archie Leonard Cowley M.M.

Archie Cowley in uniform Archie was born at Yelden in 1896, the second son of agricultural labourer, William Ernest Cowley and his wife Hannah. He had two brothers, Fred and Horace.

He was wounded three times, and was also awarded the Military Medal.

From the Medal Rolls - Archie L Cowley landed in France on the 1st September 1915.

In 1911 when Archie was 15 years old, he was working as an agricultural labourer. Son of William and Hannah, he was the middle of three brothers and also had a sister.

Archie enlisted and was posted to the 7th Northamptonshire Regiment, as one of Mobbs' Own battalion, and was sent to France in September 1915. He was wounded in August 1916.

The following August he was wounded and, on discharge from hospital, he joined the 2nd Northamptonshire Regiment. He was again listed as wounded in June 1918.
