Stoker Charles Houghton
A Higham Ferrers Benefit – A Worthy Case

Stoker HoughtonA dance, arranged by the girls at Mr. Chamberlain’s factory at Higham Ferrers, is to be held at the Band Club Hall, Higham Ferrers, on Tuesday, March 12th, on behalf of Stoker Charles Houghton, late of H.M.S. Venerable. Stoker Houghton, who served over ten years in the Navy, has seen much service in the present war, taking part on the Dardanelles campaign and in the bombardment of the Belgian coast in the early days of the war.

He is now discharged from the Service practically a broken-down man, as he is suffering from gastric ulcers and is nearly blind, the sight of the left eye having completely gone. He has a wife and three little children, and being totally unfit for work of any description his small pension proves totally inadequate to maintain his family.

We trust that the above-mentioned worthy effort on his behalf will be enthusiastically supported.
