Rushden Tender Accepted

On Monday there were present Messrs Shelmerdine (in the chair), Enos Smith, J.P., Camozzi, Bass, Hodson, Lee, G. £. Smith, Gaunt, and Streather.

The Council expressed their sense of the loss the county had sustained by the death of the late Earl Spencer.

The Medical Officer submitted his monthly report.  The epidemic of measles had come to an end; no fatal case had occurred.  Two cases of scarlet fever had been notified during the month, but these had recovered.  There were three deaths and twelve births during the month.

The Surveyor reported that eight shoe manufacturers in the town had each given a pair of fireman’s boots for the Fire Brigade.

The Tender

of Mr W G Wilmott, Rushden, was accepted for private street works in Berrister Place at £163, the work to be completed by Nov 12.

The Highway Committee reported that Mr C Finding of Finedon, an old resident of the town, had offered to give and fix eight seats to be placed at various points along the highway.

Mr Enos Smith proposed and Mr Bass seconded that the offer be accepted, and this was agreed to.

Mr James Hodson moved that the Council employees be given bank Holidays and paid for the same.

Mr Lee seconded.  The holidays having been defined as five viz, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Easter Monday, Whit Monday, and the first Monday in August, the resolution was carried with one dissentient.
