The original photograph was marked W.I. 1924. Research suggests the Hargrave WI must had gone down to London for the 1924 British Empire Exhibition in Wembley and somebody on the Jamaican stand must have lent them the large banana for the photo! 

At the time bananas were the primary export of Jamaica and there is a record of a large banana prop. being on their stand.
