The late Pte. Willmott was a member of the Rushden Independent Wesleyan Church, and as a lad passed through the Sunday school in connection with that place of worship. He was a keen and enthusiastic cricketer, and at the time of the outbreak of war was captain of the Rushden Town second eleven, and he was also a useful member of the Rushden Thursday cricket team.
