Rushden’s Casualty List - Victims of the War

Pte William Whitney, 121677, M.G.C., son of Mrs Whitney, of Ferndale, High-street North, Rushden, has died as a prisoner of war.  Deceased’s wife who resides with her mother at 9, Oakley-road, Rushden has received news to this effect from the Red Cross Association at Geneva.  Deceased, who was 27 years of age, was taken prisoner on March 21st this year at St. Quentin, and he died at the Prisoners of War Hospital at Streudal from inflammation of the lungs on June 28th, at 4 a.m., though the news to this effect did not reach Rushden until last Wednesday.

Far From Home - Rushden Prisoner Dies in Germany

Pte. William John Whitney, M.G.C., husband of Mrs. Whitney, of Oakley-road, Rushden, has been reported, through the Red Cross Society, to have died on August 24th from inflammation of the lungs in Germany. Pte. Whitney was taken prisoner on March 21st last, but his relatives have only received two cards from him since then.
