Rushden Soldier Dead - Pte Harry Whitney - Succumbs to Illness - Contacted in the Trenches

Much sympathy will be felt throughout the town for Mr and Mrs C A Whitney, of 17 Alfred-street, Rushden, who have received official news that their only son, Pte Harry Whitney, of the Northants Regt, has died in the New Zealand Hospital, Amiens, France, from an illness contracted in the trenches.

The deceased soldier, who was 18 years of age, only went to the front at the end of August this year. He enlisted on November, 14th, 1914, when but 16 years of age, and up to the time of his enlistment was a member of the 1st Rushden Troop of Boy Scouts. He was employed by Messrs. Wm Green and Sons. As a lad he passed through the Sunday School of the Wellingborough-road Mission.
