Popular Concert Artiste Loses Only Son
Only son of Mr. Sam Wheatley, the well-known local concert artiste and Mrs. Wheatley, of 105 Irchester-road, Rushden, Pte. Harold Basil Wheatley, Northamptonshire Regiment, was killed in the Central Mediterranean theatre of war during October. The news was received on Saturday morning by his wife, who resides at 27 Midland-road, Raunds, and to whom he was married five years ago.
In the Army four years, Pte. Wheatley went overseas 13 months ago and was with Pte. Charles Dowsett, of Rushden, who has been reported wounded. He is 29 years of age and before call-up worked for Messrs. John White Ltd., at Higham Ferrers. As a boy he attended the Higham Ferrers school.
