Rushden Soldiers' Death - Private Reginald S Warner Killed in Action

The sad news has been received from unofficial sources, by Mr George Warner, boot manufacturer, Harborough-road, Rushden, that his grandson, Pte Reginald Stanley Warner, of the Leicester Regt., was killed in action on October 2nd. The only intimation received up to the present is contained in a letter from a comrade written under date October 3rd, as follows:-

"It is with the deepest regret and sympathy that I am obliged to write this letter. I am not a very good hand at letter writing, but I'm most sorry to say that your grandson Reggie was killed whilst nobly doing his best for the country on October 2nd. He was well liked throughout the platoon, and we found him one of the best-hearted lads. We all join in the deepest sympathy at his untimely death. He died bravely doing his best. I must mention that your parcel arrived today, and was shared amongst the last in Reggie's platoon."

The late Pte Warner, who was brought up by his grandfather from boyhood, was 19 years of age. He joined His Majesty's Forces in February, 1916, and went to France at the latter end of October last year. Up to the time of joining up he was in business with his grandfather.
