Percy Stanley Waller was examined at Kettering in March 1917, aged 17 years and 334 days, 5' 2" tall, weighed 107lbs, with a chest of 34" (4" expansion) and of good physical development. He gave his address as 20 Washbrook Road and was a shoemaker by trade, and was assigned to the Bedfordshire Regiment for training but when posted to France on 5th April 1918 he was transferred to the 1st Battalion of the Hertforshire Regiment. On his arrival he was transferred again to the North Staffs Regiment. He died from a gun shot wound to his right leg. Siblings were a brother Eric and sister Emma. |

Rushden's Casualty List - Victims of the War
Pte. Percy Stanley Waller, North Stafford Regiment, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Waller, of 1a, Midland-road, Rushden, is lying in a serious condition from wounds in the right leg and a fractured left arm, in hospital in France. On Friday last his parents received a cablegram summoning them to his bedside, and left England for France immediately. On Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. Waller wired home that their son was slightly better. Pte. Waller, who is 19 years of age, joined the Colours in March, 1917, and went to France in April this year. He was formerly employed by Mr. Davidson, boot manufacturer, Rushden.

Rushden's Casualty List - Victims of the War
Mr and Mrs A S Waller, of 1a, Midland-road, Rushden, have been officially notified of the death from wounds of their eldest son, Pte P S (Stanley) Waller, 1st Staffs, aged 19. He joined up in March, 1917, and had been in France nine months when, on October 14th of this year, he was badly wounded, his left arm and right leg being fractured. His parents were sent for to see their son in hospital in France. After a week Mr Waller returned home, and Mrs Waller stayed for three weeks. Pte Waller appeared then to be very comfortable, and he made good progress for a time, but on Nov. 19th he relapsed and died. The Chaplain of the hospital writes to say that Pte Waller was buried with full military honours in the cemetery at Le Treport.
