Rushden Shoehand killed

Mrs Tew of 16 Newton-road, Rushden, has received the sad news that her husband Pte. Henry Tew (Northants Regt.) was killed whilst working in a trench on August 8^th. The deceased’s platoon officer has written to Mrs Tew, expressing sympathy. The late soldier enlisted an October 11^th 1915 and went to the front on March 1st of this year. He formerly marked at the factory of Messrs E Claridge & Sons.

Rushden Pioneer Killed - While Working in the Trenches - Private Henry Tew - 'A Quiet and Willing Worker'

It is with great regret that we have to report the death in action of Pte Henry Tew, 20839, Northants Regt, whose home address is 16, Ebenezer-terrace, Newton-road, Rushden. Pte Henry Tew's wife has this week received the following letter, dated August 9th, from her husband's platoon officer:-

"Dear Mrs Tew, - with deepest regret I write you this letter to inform you that your husband, Pte Tew, was killed while working in the trenches last night. I am truly grieved to lose him as, during the three months I knew him as his platoon officer, I always found him a quiet and willing worker. He was buried this afternoon in the cemetery which adjoins this village. Please accept my sheerest sympathies and also those of my platoon sergeant. - W R Tate."

Pte Henry Tew, who formerly worked for Messrs. Claridge and Sons, Ltd., shoe manufacturer, Rectory-road, Rushden, enlisted in October last and went to France on March 1st this year.

Mrs Tew would be glad if any of his comrades could send her further particulars of her husband's death.

Rushden Soldier Killed - Official News

Mrs Tew, of Newton road, Rushden, has now had official news of the death of her husband, Pte Harry Tew, who was killed on August 9th. Accompanying the official document was a letter of sympathy from the King and Queen.

Mrs Tew wishes to thank all kind friends for their letters of sympathy in her sad bereavement.
