Percy Arthur Taylor was 22 years old when he enlisted and had been working as a clicker. He was examined at Northampton on 26th April 1915, and was 5' 10" tall, chest 35½" (2" expansion), and gave his father William as next of kin. He was posted to France on 1st September 1915, and killed in action on 20th July 1916. |

Rushden Soldier Killed - By Machine-Gun Fire - While on Sentry Duty - Private Percy Taylor
Mr and Mrs Taylor, of 13, East-grove, Rushden, have received news from an unofficial, though no doubt trustworthy, source of the death in action of their son, Private Percy Arthur Taylor, 18200, Northants Regt. Private S T Smith, a soldier of the same platoon as Private Taylor writes to Mrs Taylor to say that her son was killed by machine-gun fire at 3 a.m. on July 20th while on sentry duty. He died almost instantly and therefore suffered practically no pain. Private Smith also says in his letter that he was an old pal of Private Taylor's in civilian life.
Private Taylor enlisted in April, 1915, and went out to the front in September, 1915. He formerly worked at Messrs. Eaton and Co.'s boot and shoe factory, Rushden. He was single, 23 years of age. He was once a member of St Mary's CLB.

Rushden Solider Chums - One Killed - And the Other Wounded
In last week's "Rushden Echo" we reported that Pte Percy Arthur Taylor, son of Mr and Mrs W Taylor, of 13, East-grove, Rushden, had been killed by machine gun fire and that news of his death was sent to Rushden by Pte Sydney T ("Sam") Smith, who himself was wounded in ten places - five times in the right leg and five times in the left leg. The latter limb has been amputated. Pte Smith, who is the brother of Mrs Langdon, of 75 Newton-road, Rushden, was Pte Taylor's pal in civilian life, and we believe they enlisted together. They were in the Northants Regiment.
