Rushden Soldiers death in Italy
News that Cpl Clifford Henry Sayers, Royal Fusiliers, has been killed in action in Italy was received by his wife, Mrs M E Sayers of 1 Oval Rd Rushden on Wednesday.
Cpl. Sayers was 28 years of age. His father Mr J Sayers resides at Isham and an uncle and aunt, Mr & Mrs Reeve live at 15 Fitzwilliam Street, Rushden. In the army for 4 years he went to North Africa last September and remained there for 7 days then going on the Sicily and Italy. Just before call-up he worked as a dispatch clerk at Messrs John Whites' Higham Ferrers factory but was also known as a former employee at Messrs Webb Bros, outfitters, at which time he played for the Thursday football team. Four brothers-in-law of Cpl Sayers are fighting overseas.
