When Arthur Sabey enlisted as 22062 in the Kings Own Scottish Borderers at Northampton on 28th October 1915 he was living at 4 Alexandra Terrace, Kingsthorpe, aged 30 years and 2 months, and a hand laster by trade. He was immediatly sent to Berwick on Tweed. His father George was living at Cemetery House, Rushden, and was his next of kin. After service in England at various depots and being made Lance Cororal (7th January 1916), he was posted to the Royal Scots 2nd Battalion as a Private and sent to France on the 19th February 1918, and was killed in action on 12th April 1918. He had a brother Wilfred and two sisters, Dora Rose, and Hilda who was a nurse at Northampton Hospital.

Rushden's Casualty List

Mr and Mrs George Sabey, of Cemetery House, Rushden, received official news on Monday morning that their eldest son, 42656, Lance-Corpl Arthur Reginald Sabey, Royal Scots, was killed in action on April 12th. The deceased soldier, who at the time of enlistment, two years ago last October, was working for Messrs. John Branch and Sons, Ltd., Kingsthorpe, Northampton, was 31 years of age. He had been in France since February this year, up to which time he was corporal and physical instructor to the King's Own Scottish Borderers. Mr and Mrs Sabey have another son serving his country, viz., Pte Wilfred Sabey, of the King's Own Scottish Borderers, who is in hospital suffering from trench fever and bronchitis. Up to the time of going to France, he also was a corporal and musketry instructor.
