Rushden Soldier Victim - Private F Rawlins - Fallen in Action - A Sad Coincidence

We regret to report that Mr and Mrs Joseph Rawlins, of 199 Wellingborough-road, Rushden, have received official news that their third son Pte F Rawlins, Northants Regt., was killed in action on Aug. 17th. Mr and Mrs Rawlins's eldest son, the late Pte Aza (sic) Rawlins, of the Australian Contingent, was killed in the Gallipoli Campaign on Aug. 17th twelve months ago, and it is a sad coincidence that his brother Frank should meet his death exactly twelve months later to the day.

Pte F Rawlins enlisted twelve months last June and went to France in December 31st, 1915. He was 28 years of age, and prior to his enlistment worked for Mr B Ladds, and was highly respected by his shopmates.

Mr and Mrs Rawlins who have thus given two sons to the country's cause, have yet three other sons serving with the colours, viz., Pte J G Rawlins (Northants Regt), Pte Alfred Rawlins (Northants Pioneer), and Trooper L Rawlins (Beds Yeomanry).
