Rushden Soldier Missing
Pte. Leonard Harold Pendered, of the Hampshire Regiment, who has been serving in North Africa, has been posted as missing. This news was received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Pendered, of 30, Oakley-road, Rushden, on March 24th. Before joining the Army two years ago Pte. Pendered was employed by Messrs. Arthur Sanders Ltd., builders, Rectory-road. He was well known, too, in football circles as a player for the Adult School.

Sportsman Killed In Action - Missing Rushden Soldier's Grave is Found
Reported missing in April, Private Leonard Harold Pendered, of the Hampshire Regiment, is now known to have been killed in action on Feb. 28th, 1943.

His parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Pendered of 30, Oakley-road. Rushden, received this further news on Thursday week in a letter from the War Office, which stated that the military authorities in North Africa had established that he had lost his life, as his grave had been found and identified by the British Graves Registration Unit.

Pte. Pendered was in the Army for two years, and was 23 years of age. He was a former employee of Messrs. Arthur Sanders Ltd., builders, and was well-known in football circles as a player for the Rushden Adult School, as well as being a member of the Athletic Club. He attended the Intermediate School as a boy.

Note: Son of Harold Pendered and Ellen (nee Haddon) and brother to Kathleen Pendered.
