The Rushden Echo Friday 30 August 1918, transcribed by Nicky Bates
In Memoriam
In loving memory of Pte Lewis Payne, of Queen's Royal West Surrey Regt., who died of wounds, August 26, 1917.
We never knew what pain he had,
We never saw him die;
We only knew he passed away
And never said Good-bye.
From his sorrowing wife and child.
