Rushden Gymnast Killed - Private Frank O. Parker - Dies In Palestine
It is with very sincere regret that we have to report that Mr. & Mrs. Harry Parker, of 11 Queen Street, Rushden, have received unofficial news that their elder son, Pte. Frank Oliver Parker, of the Essex Regiment, has been killed in action in Palestine. The sad news is sent by Pte. Dickens, of Cromwell Road, Rushden, of the same regiment, a comrade of the deceased soldier, who mentions that he was given a decent burial. The late Pte. Parker, who was 24 years of age, joined the Colours on January 16th this year, up to which time he was in the employ of Messrs. Ebenezer Claridge and Sons, boot manufacturers, Rushden, where he was highly esteemed both by his principals and shopmates. He leaves a widow and one little girl to mourn their loss.
As a lad he passed through the Independent Wesleyan Sunday School, Rushden, and for two or three years he was pianist to the gymnasium class in connection with that institution, and the members presented him with a marble clock in appreciation of his services.
