Rushden Soldier Victim of the West Kent Regt Killed in Action
Official news has been received by Mrs E Palmer, of Beech-road, Rushden, that her seventh son, 8358 Pte Septimus Walter Palmer, of the Royal West Kent Regt., was killed in action on Oct. 7th.
Prior to receipt of the official news Mrs Palmer had felt much anxiety concerning her son as she had received no letter from him since Sept. 26th. Finally she wrote to her son's commanding officer and received a reply from the CSM under date Nov. 10th, as follows: "In reply to your letter dated Nov. 4th I regret to inform you that your son was reported killed after the action of October 7th. If any further details come to hand, you will be notified at once. Please accept my deepest sympathy."
The late Pte Palmer, 28 years of age, enlisted on April 19th this year, and went to France early in September. He was formerly employed by Messrs. Ebenezer Claridge and Sons.
Another son of Mrs Palmer's is in the army - Corpl Frank Palmer, of the Northants Regt, at present stationed at Tring. He enlisted just over 12 months ago, and has been very successful in his military career, having now been appointed musketry instructor. Previous to joining he had served four years with the Territorials.

The late Pte S W Palmer, West Kent Regt, son of Mrs E Palmer, of Beech-road, Rushden, who, as reported in the "Rushden Echo" was killed in action on Oct. 7th.
Mrs Palmer and family wish to thank the many friends who so kindly sympathised with them in their sad bereavement - Beech-road, Rushden.
