CASUALTY - Pte G E Mears, of the R.A.S.C., husband of Mrs Mears, Irchester-road, Rushden, has died of pneumonia in France. He joined the Colours in Mary, 1918, and went to the Western Front in the following September. Before joining he was employed by Messrs. Eaton Bros., Rushden. At one time he resided at Wollaston, where he was hon. secretary to the Conservative Association, sick steward to the Court Goodwill, A.O.F., and a member of the Wollaston Town Band.

An Old Bandsman – Former Wollaston Soldier’s Death
Pte. George E. Mears, of the A.S.C., has died of bronchitis and pneumonia. He was the husband of Mr. G. E. Mears, Irchester-road, Rushden, and that lady has received information that he died at the 61st Clearing Station, France. He joined up in May 1918, and went to France the following September. Before enlisting he was in the employ of Messrs. Eaton Bros., shoe manufacturers. He formerly resided at Wollaston, and for many years was hon. sec. to the Conservative Association, and sick steward of Court “Goodwill” A.O.F. He was an old member of the Wollaston Town Band.
