School’s Loss - Air Officer Killed in Accident

  News has reached Rushden that Flt.-Lt. W. Stanley Jarvis, D.F.C., R.A.F.V.R., formerly an assistant master on the staff of Alfred-street Mixed School, was killed in a flying accident in France last month.

  Flt.-Lt. Jarvis will be remembered, by numbers of boys particularly, for his exceptional work in physical training, the organisation of summer camps, and among the Boy Scouts.  He was also very active in the Rushden Home Guard during the early days.

  Joining the R.A.F. in August, 1940, he trained to be a pilot but later became a navigation officer and did a considerable period of instructing in Rhodesia.  He was engaged in operational work from Italy over Central Europe, returned to this country for a short time last autumn, and was afterwards on operational work in France.

  Flt.-Lt., Jarvis joined the Alfred-street staff in 1938 and resided in Oakley-road, Rushden, until he entered the Air Force.  His widow, Mrs. Dorothy Jarvis, and two young sons are now at Brownhills, near Walsall.
