Rushden Airman Killed
As briefly announced last week, Corpl. Stanley Hobbs, (23), R.A.F., of 4 Griffith-street, Rushden, formerly a popular member of the staff of Mr. John L. Wilson, auctioneer and estate agent, died on Friday morning at Hillingdon Hospital, Uxbridge, as a result of injuries received in a road accident.
Corporal Hobbs was found by the side of a road near Ruislip, Middlesex, with severe head injuries, and was taken to the hospital during Wednesday night. His motor cycle was beside him and it was thought that he may have caught a projecting kerb stone.
Corporal Hobbs was married just twelve months ago, his bride being Miss Queenie Childs, the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Childs, of 4, Griffith-street. The only son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hobbs, of 6, King’s-road, he was an old boy of the Rushden Intermediate School, and started work under the late Mr. Robert Tusting before the business was acquired by Mr. J. L. Wilson.
He joined the R.A.F. in July last year. A keen violinist, he had often played in Mr. John Cooke’s orchestra, and was a member of St. Mary’s Church.
The inquest took place at Uxbridge on Tuesday.
