Rushden Victims of the War [extract]

Miss Compton, of 8 Victoria-road, Rushden, has received news that her fiance, Pte G Harrison, Beds Regiment, was killed in action on March 21st. The late Pte Harrison, aged 24, enlisted from Rushden, as up to the time of joining the Colours, he was in the employ of the Maypole Dairy Co., Ltd., at their Rushden depot. He was one of the first to join the Rushden Company of Volunteers, and he continued his association right up to the time of joining the regular forces. A native of Leicester, he came to Rushden about three years ago, and enlisting on February 8th, 1916, he proceeded to the Western front in the November following. Last August he received a bad wound in the head and was sent to hospital in Scotland for about four months, returning to France in December last.
