Death of Rushden Soldier

The sad news that her husband, Pte. George Hale, had died in a hospital from smallpox in Iraq, after a short illness, has been received by Mrs Hale, of 19, Oval-road, Rushden. Pte. Hale, who was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Hale, of 19, Oval-road, Rushden, joined the Army just after the outbreak of war. Six months ago he went abroad to serve in Madagascar, India and finally Iraq, where he was admitted to hospital on December 7th and died on December 16th.

Aged 22, Pte. Hale was educated at the Newton-road School and prior to joining up was employed in the clicking room at Messrs. John White’s Lime-street factory. A native of Rushden, he was married 18 months ago to Miss Florence Brown, of Coates, near Peterborough.
