Rushden Soldier Dead - Corpl WT George - Succumbs to wounds in the Head

We regret to report that Mr and Mrs Henry Edward George, of 76 Cromwell-road, Rushden have received news unofficially of the death of their son Corpl W T George, of the 6th Northants.

The sad news was sent to Mr and Mrs George by one of the sisters at a casualty clearing station in France. She wrote to the effects that Corpl George was brought into the hospital suffering form a serious head wound, and that he expired at 5 a.m. the next day. He was unconscious when he was brought in and remained in that condition until he passed away, so that he suffered no pain. He would be buried, she said, in a little cemetery under a hill, and a cross would mark his resting place. She expressed great sympathy with the bereaved parents.

The late Corpl George was 25 years old and enlisted on August 11th 1914. Up to the time of his enlistment he had been for about 2½ years a member of the Northants Constabulary and was stationed at Kettering, residing at the police station there.

Mr and Mrs George have another son in His Majesty's forces - Pte Arthur George, of the 1/4th Northants, at present stationed at Tring.

Rushden Corporal Killed in France

We regret to report that Corpl. W. T. George (6th Northants Regiment), son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry George, of 76, Cromwell-road, Rushden, has been fatally wounded in France. Corpl. George was a police constable at Kettering before the war, and he enlisted early in August, 1914. After training at various stations he went to the front on August 11th, 1915. On Tuesday the sad news of his death was received by his parents, and issued from No. 5 Casualty Clearing Station in France. The sister who wrote the letter stated that Corpl. George was brought to the hospital in an unconscious state on Saturday night, and that the poor fellow died at 5 o’clock on Sunday morning; he did not suffer. The deceased soldier would be buried in a little cemetery on a hill, and a cross would mark his last resting place.

Sincere sympathy will be expressed towards Mr. and Mrs. George, who have another son in the 3/4th Northants at Tring.

Rushden Soldier Injured - Private Arthur George Of the Northants Regiment

Mr and Mrs Henry George, of 76 Cromwell-road, Rushden, have received official news that their son, Pte Arthur George, of the Northants Regt., was wounded during the big battle in Egypt on April 19th. He has been in Egypt about 18 months. It will be remembered that Mr and Mrs George have already given one son to their country's cause - the late Corpl William T George, who died of wounds in France on November 28th, 1915, as reported in the "Rushden Echo" at the time.

Pte George's parents are anxious for further news concerning their son Arthur. He is only 19 years of age, having enlisted at the age of 17.
