Rushden’s Casualty List - In the Great German Offensive

Mr and Mrs H. Garley, of 11, Moor-road, Rushden, have received a notification from the Infantry Record Office that their fourth son, 13328, Pte. John William Garley, Northants Regiment, has been missing since April 5th.  Pte. Garley, who is 27 years of age, enlisted immediately after the outbreak of war, and went to France in January, 1915.  He has been through the thick of the fighting, and has been twice wounded and once gassed.  Before enlistment he was employed by Mr Jos. Knight, boot manufacturer, Rushden.  Mr and Mrs Garley have two other sons with the Colours, viz., Pte. Amos Garley (Northants Regiment) and Gunner Horace Garley (R.F.A.), both of whom are in France.  Pte. Amos Garley has once been wounded.  Mr and Mrs Garley will be grateful to any soldier of the Northants Regiment who can send them any information as to the fate of their missing son, Pte. J. W. Garley.  He was home on leave recently, and only returned to France the week before Easter.
