Rushden Airman Missing - Shock for Parents after Wedding Visit
Recently Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Freeman, of 107, Newton-road, Rushden, went to a wedding. When they returned home they expected to find a letter from their son, Sergeant Arthur Rowland Freeman, W.Op./A.G., R.A.F.V.R., who had returned to his unit from leave two days before. Instead, however, they found a telegram. It stated that he had been reported “missing.”
Sergeant Freeman was born at Rushden, attended the Newton-road School, and later went to the Intermediate School. He commenced work at the Newton-road factory of Messrs. John White, Ltd., and afterwards transferred to the welting department of the Lime-street works, joining the Air Force about two years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Freeman have five other sons and three daughters. One of the boys, Gunner R. A. Freeman, is with the R.A. in India; another, Pte. J. W. Freeman, is with the Northamptonshire Regiment in Ireland, and there is a daughter in the A.T.S. Mr. Freeman served with the Northamptonshire Regiment in the last war and was also in the Territorials.
