Rushden Airman Missing - Shock for Parents after Wedding Visit

Sgt A R Freeman Recently Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Freeman, of 107, Newton-road, Rushden, went to a wedding. When they returned home they expected to find a letter from their son, Sergeant Arthur Rowland Freeman, W.Op./A.G., R.A.F.V.R., who had returned to his unit from leave two days before. Instead, however, they found a telegram. It stated that he had been reported “missing.”

Sergeant Freeman was born at Rushden, attended the Newton-road School, and later went to the Intermediate School. He commenced work at the Newton-road factory of Messrs. John White, Ltd., and afterwards transferred to the welting department of the Lime-street works, joining the Air Force about two years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Freeman have five other sons and three daughters. One of the boys, Gunner R. A. Freeman, is with the R.A. in India; another, Pte. J. W. Freeman, is with the Northamptonshire Regiment in Ireland, and there is a daughter in the A.T.S. Mr. Freeman served with the Northamptonshire Regiment in the last war and was also in the Territorials.

Presumed Killed – Hope for Rushden Airman is Abandoned
In view of the lapse of time and absence of any further news, Sergt. A R Freeman, R.A.F., eldest son of Mr and Mrs S F Freeman, 107, Newton-road, Rushden, is now officially presumed to have lost his life on April 25th, 1942, the date on which he was reported missing.

A native of Rushden, Sergt. Freeman attended the Newton-road School and commenced work at the Newton-road factory of Messrs John White, Ltd. Afterwards he was transferred to the welting department of the Lime-street works, joining the Air Force over two years ago.

Mr and Mrs Freeman have five other sons and three daughters. Two son are serving in the Forcer; Ronald (Royal Artillery) is in India, and Jack (R.A.O.C.) has just gone overseas. A daughter is in the A.T.S.
