Scouter Killed in Action
Mr. and Mrs. O. Upton, of 23, Brookfield-road, Rushden, have received news that their nephew, Sergt. Ron Fensome, aged 22, was killed in action in Italy on April 17th. Sergt. Fensome joined the Northamptonshire Regt. In January, 1942, and went abroad in November of the same year, serving in the North African, Sicilian and Italian campaigns. He was the second son of Mr. and the late Mrs. T. Fensome, of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, and two brothers are serving in the Forces Sergt. Robert Fensome, of the Grenadier Guards, and Cpl. Gerald Fensome, at sea with the Royal Marines.
The sergeant was engaged to Miss Norah Hodgkins, A.T.S., of 21, Trafford-road, Rushden. He was educated at Rushden Intermediate School and belonged to the Park-road Baptist Boy’s Brigade, later joining the 1st Rushden Scouts and becoming Assistant Scoutmaster. Employed by Mr. Robert Marriott, builder, he served in the Home Guard before joining the Army.
