Ralph Omar Dunmore, son of Arthur & Violet (nee Knight) was born in Sartoris Road and was then brought up in Tennyson Road and he went to Alfred Street School. He also attended the Boot & Shoe Technical School in Rectory Road whilst he was working in the shoe trade.

Ralph served in the Royal Navy and was on guard on a merchant ship, going from India to Freemantle in Australia, when the ship was sunk by the Japanese. Aged 28, Ralph died on 23rd July 1943.

Rushden Sailor Missing

A telegram from the Admiralty on Monday morning informed Mr. and Mrs. A. Dunmore, of 35, Wymington-road, that their only son, A/B Ralph Dunmore, R.N., was missing, possibly a prisoner of war. A/B Dunmore was last heard of as serving on the India route three months ago. He is 28 years of age, and has been with the Royal Navy for three years, before then being employed at Messrs. John White’s factory in Lime-street.
