Family's Record - Three Boys at the Front - A Fourth Wounded in South Africa

Mr and Mrs Denton of Cromwell-road, Rushden, have three sons serving in the war against Germany. Walter has to his credit 16 years, which he has spent in the Suffolks. He fought in the South African war and was fortunate in escaping serious injury. He writes from Weymouth, from where he is expecting to be transferred to the scene of war, saying that he is well.

Benjamin has belonged to His Majesty's Army for 13 years, eight in the Suffolks and five in the reserves. A third son Jack, joined the Northamptons two years ago, so the three sons are not likely to fight side by side.

Another son, Dick, lost four fingers whilst fighting in South Africa, and is in consequence unable to fight against Germany. He is on the pensioners' list.

Letter Returned - Where is Private Denton, of Rushden?

Communications from Private Walter Denton, of Rushden, who is at the front, have ceased for some time past and this week a letter from home was returned. Mrs Denton has re-directed the envelope, and hopes soon to get a reply. Private Jack Denton is still at Winchester.

A letter from Private B Denton, who is at the front states that he has been with his brother Walter for about a month. Private B Denton, who says he is quite well, hopes soon to be home.

Promotion For Rushden Soldier

Corpl. B. Denton, 2nd Suffolks, son of Mr and Mrs Denton, 97 Cromwell-road, Rushden, has been promoted full sergeant.

Home Next March? - Rushden Soldier's Hope

Private B Denton (Rushden), writing from the front, says he is fighting in trenches and will not be able to get home for Christmas but hopes to be home about next March.

Frostbite - Rushden Cousins Invalided Home

Pte J Denton (Rushden), 2nd Northants Regt., has been invalided home from the front for 21 days, having sustained frostbitten feet in the trenches. His parents, Mr and Mrs George Denton, have two other sons both serving at the front, viz., Privates Walter and Ben Denton, of the Suffolk Regiment.

It is a singular coincidence that Pte J. Denton is a cousin of Pte A Denton (Rushden), who has been invalided home through the same cause. Pte J Denton prefers not to relate any of his experiences for publication.

Rushden Man Killed - Sergeant B Denton - An Unofficial Report - Further News Wanted

We regret that Mrs B Denton, of 36 Allen-road, Rushden, has received news from unofficial sources that her husband, Sergt B Denton of the 2nd Suffolks, was killed in France on March 2nd. The sad information was sent by his brother, Lance-Corpl W Denton, in a letter to his sister. The deceased solder, who was 30 years of age, was called up as a reservist on the outbreak of war, and proceeded to the fighting line in the following month. Up to the time of rejoining his regiment he was employed in the packing room of Messrs A Groome and Sons' boot factory, Rushden Hill. He leaves a widow and two children to mourn their loss.

A letter has been sent to the deceased soldier's brother, Lance-Corpl W Denton, asking for further information.

Rushden Sergeant Killed in Action on the Western Front

Unofficial news has come that a Rushden soldier, Sergt B Denton, husband of Mrs Denton, of 36 Allen-road, has recently been killed on the western front. Sergt Denton, who formerly worked at Messrs Groome's boot factory, was called up in August 1914, as a reservist, and joined his regiment, the 2nd Suffolks, going to the front in September 1914. His brother, Lance-Corpl W Denton, who was with him in the same regiment, sends the sad news. The date of the death is given as March 2nd. Mrs Denton is left with two young children.

Rushden Sergeant's Death

Official news has now been received of the death of Sergt B Denton (Rushden), of the 2nd Suffolks. Deceased had a brother in the same regiment and two more in the Northants Regiment.

Mr and Mrs G Denton of 97, Cromwell-road, Rushden desire to thank all the friends who have shown their sympathy towards them in their sad bereavement in the death of their son who was killed in action on March 2nd.
