George William Clark, Private, 202819. He served with the Prince of Wales Volunteers (South Lancashire Regiment). Born at Finedon on 23rd November 1882 to William and Catherine Clark and was christened at St Mary’s Parish Church, Finedon on 14th January 1883. Later, his parents lived at 33 Crabb Street, Rushden. George was formerly employed by the late Mr G Miller, of Rushden. He enlisted at Earlstown, Lancashire, in October1916, and died of Typhoid Fever at Baghdad on the 5th May 1918.

Rushden's Casualty List - In the Great German Offensive
Pte G W Clarke, of the South Lancashire Regiment, eldest son of Mr and Mrs W Clarke, of 33 Crabb street, Rushden, died from typhoid fever on May 5th, at Baghdad. He joined the Colours on October 10th, 1916, and had been out in there East since August last. Previous to his leaving Rushden for Blackpool, he served under the late Mr Geo. Miller for five years as his assistant. He was married and leaves a widow and one child. Deceased was a prominent member of the St Mary's Church Institute. He was 35 years of age last November. Deceased was secretary to the Church Council for two years at Earlestown, in which place he resided before donning khaki, and in which place his widow now lives. Mr and Mrs W Clarke have another son (Charlie) serving in France with the Anti-Aircraft Section.

Rushden Young Man Dies of Fever
We are sorry to learn that Pte G W Clarke, South Lancashire Regt, eldest son of Mr and Mrs W Clarke, of 33 Crabb-street, Rushden, died of typhoid fever on May 5th at Baghdad. Pte Clarke enlisted in October, 1916, and went to the East in August last. He was formerly employed by the late Mr G Miller of Rushden. He was 35 years of age.
