Fred Causby was a shoe packer aged 38 years and 7 months, and unmarried when he enlisted into the Northamptonshire Regiment on 9th October 1916. He as 5' 3" tall, of very fair physical development with a 34" chest (2" expansion). He was posted to France with the Expeditionary Force on 19th February 1916 and was wounded in the thigh on June 16th 1917. After convalescence he returned to France on 19th March 1918 and was killed in action on 20th April 1918.
He had a full brother John and half sister Mary Ann Rich who were living in Kingsthorpe. In December 1920 Mary Ann accepted the scroll and plaque for her brother, and at the same time asked the War department to send her a plaque for her son W. Rich as she had not received one.
