FATAL SERVICE IN MESOPOTAMIA?—With regret we record the death, which took place on Monday, at 63, Spencer-road, of Mr. Leslie Robert ("Rick") Butcher, at the age of 28. The deceased was an extremely popular young man amongst his many friends and acquaintances. He had served in the Army in Mesopotamia, and owing to the bad and insufficient food he contracted serious stomach troubles. Since his return last June he has been under the constant attention of the doctor, but was able to work for some time at Messrs. Sanders and Sanders' factory. During the past few weeks he became too ill to work, and in spite of every care bestowed upon him, he passed away from chronic gastritis. The funeral took place this (Friday) afternoon, the funeral arrangements having been made by Mr. Arthur Sanders.
