Information from Clive Wood
Cyril George Bird always called George, was born 3rd July 1911.
He joined the Royal Signals Regiment, and died in Borneo on 26th December 1944 whilst a prisoner of the Japanese.
He worked at John White’s factory before enlisting. He was married to Doris and they had a daughter Patricia (later married to Mike Bailey).
He is also commemorated in Rushden Cemetery
Grave F1626 with his brother Alfred.

Rushden Soldier a Prisoner of War
The news that her husband, Driver C. G. Bird, R.C.S., is a prisoner of the Japs at a camp in Borneo, was received by Mrs. Bird, of 136, Cromwell-road, Rushden, on Thursday. Driver Bird was last reported as having landed at Java more than 12 months ago, but no news had since been received. Prior to joining the Army in 1940 he was employed at Messrs. John White’s heel factory. There is one child.
