Rushden's Casualty List - Men Killed, Wounded and Gassed

Pte John Thomas Bennett, 30907, Northants Regiment, son of Mrs Colgrove, of 7 Little-street, Rushden, has, we regret to say, made the supreme sacrifice. His mother has received official information that he died of wounds in No.41 Casualty Clearing Station, France, on April 5th. Deceased, who was 32 years of age, and unmarried, was home as recently as January last. As a lad he went through the Park-road Baptist Sunday School. Before joining the Colours, in November, 1916, he worked for Messrs. Wm Claridge and Sons, and was in their employ 14 years. After ten week's training he was sent to France (in January 1917). He was of a very quiet disposition, and was well respected. His elder brother, Pte Hector Bennett, who also worked for Messrs. Wm Claridge and Sons, was recently discharged from the Army with chronic rheumatism, after service on the Western front. A half-brother, Pte George Colgrove (Mrs Colgrove's youngest son) has been wounded and is now at Blackpool, having been transferred into the RAMC. Pte Colgrave was called up at the age of 18.
