Pioneer Albert Frank Bell

119449 8th Labour Battalion Royal Engineers

Frank Bell had already served for 12 years, with the Suffolk Regiment, when he went to Whitehall to enlist on 24th September 1915. He left his wife Eliza Ann (nee James) and his daughter Annie Elizabeth aged 10½ at home. By trade he was a labourer, 5' 6" tall, and they lived at 127 Washbrook Road.

He went to France on 24th September 1915 with the Royal Engineers 8th Labour Battalion, and on 1st August 1917 transferred to the 10th Forestry Company.
Frank Bell survived the war and returned to his home at 127 Washbrook Road. He purchased or occupied a piece of land in Irchester Road.
