Home Guard Honour
The 8th Northamptonshire Battalion shared the honours bestowed upon the Home Guard throughout the country when Major Reginald Kersey Green, second in command, was made an M.B.E. (Military Division).
Third son of Mr. C. A. K. Green, of Knuston Hall, Major Green is a director of William Green and Son, boot manufacturers, Rushden, and the Wholesale and Export Shoe Company, Irchester. He resides at St. Quintin House, Harrold, Beds
In the last war Mr. Green served in the London Regt. and the Royal Field Artillery, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant after fighting in France, and afterwards served in the O.T.C. at Cambridge University.
One of the earliest members of the L.D.V. in 1940, he first commanded the Irchester section and was then asked to form G. Company (Irchester and Wollaston) with headquarters at Wollaston. In 1942 he succeeded the late Major Freer as second in command of the Battalion. He is a member of Rushden Rotary Club.
