Lance-Corpl. Albon
The Army-in-Egypt Heavyweight Boxing Championship has been son by a Rushden soldier, Lance-Corpl. F. Albon, of the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards. His home address is at 58 Shirley-road, Rushden.

Lance-Corpl. Albon enlisted on 4th April 1928 and joined the Battalion shortly after its arrival at H.M. Tower of London during October 1928. He had never boxed prior to his enlistment and fought his first fight at the Guards Depot, Caterham, where he immediately showed possibilities as a boxer, by winning the Middle-weight competition of the Guards Depot Companies.

Shortly after he joined the Battalion he won the Middle-weight Competition of No. 3 Company and was afterwards sent on a short boxing course at Chelsea Barracks. He showed great improvement upon his return and was later appointed Lance-Corporal, and sent on a longer boxing course. He met with considerable success at police and charity tournaments held in London last season, and on the 20th January 1930 he won the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards Light-heavy-weight Championship.

This season he fought as a Heavy-weight, and on the 4th November 1930, at Warley Barracks, Essex, he won the Battalion Heavy-weight Championship, and on 13th December 1930, shortly after his arrival in Egypt, he won the Army in Egypt Heavy-weight Championship.
