Railway - Staff Events

Rushden Echo, 21st January 1921, transcribed by Kay Collins

M.R. EMPLOYEES' DINNER - The Rushden employees of the Midland Railway Company held their annual dinner on Monday evening at the Waggon and Horses Hotel. About 40 members of the staff sat down to an excellent menu, arranged and catered by Mr. Frank Wilkins. Mr. J. C. Gregory (station-master) occupied the chair, and was supported by Mr. T. Ansell in the vice-chair. After the toast of "The King" which was given with musical honours, other complimentary toasts were given and responded to. A musical programme was carried out, songs being contributed by Mr. S. Weatley, Mr. Norris, Mr. Smith, and Mr. Keeley. The accompanists were Mr. Kingham (piano) and Mr. C. Woods (violin). A very pleasant evening terminated with a vote of thanks to the host and hostess for the efficient catering and to the artists for providing an amusing and entertaining programme.
