Rushden Echo, 22nd June 1923

Motor Damages Railings—Yesterday morning, about nine o’clock, a motor-lorry belonging to Messrs. T. Whitby and Son, standing outside Mr. T. Whitby’s house in Fitzwilliam-street, was left for a moment by the driver. A passing heavy vehicle appeared to have had the effect of releasing the brake, as the lorry ran down the hill, but fortunately in a diagonal direction. It struck the fence in front of Mrs. Harsant’s house, breaking down part of the ironwork and knocking off a few bricks. No other damage was done, and no one was injured.
