Rushden Echo, 29th July 1921, transcribed by Kay Collins

A Presentation was made this week to Mr. Fred Bollard, foreman for 32 years (lasting and press department) at Messrs. Sanders and Sanders’ factory, on the occasion of his leaving the firm. All the employees contributed to the gift, which was a handsome 15-jewelled lever watch, and all have expressed the pleasure it had been to work under Mr. Bollard and their keen respect at his departure after so long a period, during the whole of which time the greatest harmony and good feeling had prevailed amongst them. Mr. Fred Bollard wishes to express through our columns his cordial thanks to the employees of Messrs. Sanders and Sanders, for the splendid gift made to him this week, and more particularly for the many expressions of appreciation of good feelings towards him with which the presentation was accompanied.

John Rogers

Half Century - Leslie Sanders left, congratulates
John Rogers on his retirement after more than
50 years with the same firm

Retiring after 50 years with same firm
Not many can last this long - John Rogers is retiring after working for the same company for more than 50 years.

Mr Rogers, 66, joined Sanders and Sanders, shoe manufacturers in Spencer Road, Rushden, when he left school at the age of 15. He was rewarded last Wednesday for his long service.

Work stopped as chairman Gerald Sanders, accompanied by 100-year-old Leslie Sanders, the son of the company founder, made a presentation to the retiring Mr Rogers.

Mr Gerald Sanders said: "John has joined the ranks of our half-century league, something very few have achieved. It is a very rare occasion when anyone can put in 50 years' continual service."

Mr Rogers, of Morris Avenue, Rushden, said: "I have worked for three generations of the family. I am sorry to leave, but am looking forward to some quality time with my wife Ann."

He wished the company success and good luck and said: "I have plenty to keep myself occupied. I enjoy gardening and decorating, I am not a lazy person."

The couple's third grandchild is next month.
