Boot & Shoe Trades Journal June 26th1914
Knight and Lawrence

This business was commenced in December, 1889, in a small place in Newton-road, Rushden, and in June, next year, removed to larger premises in Alfred-street. Business increased to such an extent that a large three-storey building was put up in Newton-road in 1893, and three years later another wing was added, on the one-storey principle, and last year this room had to be made twice the size. The principal products are men's and boys' boots and shoes in box kip and box calf and dull chrome boots. The wholesale trade only is supplied. Mr. Lawrence retired in December, 1906. Mr. Knight is assisted by his two sons, Mr. Harry and Mr. Horace. Mr. A. E. Bates is the direct representative for England. Mr. Knight always takes the Scotch ground himself, and is extremely popular over the Border, where he has done a large trade for many years past. The productions of the firm are of that sound quality which satisfies the buyers and increases the trade. All the goods are thoroughly reliable and to this fact must be attributed the success of the business.
