The Gimson Works—A meeting of the local branch of the Amalgamated Engineers’ Union was held on Monday, to consider, amongst other things the position of members who will be affected by the closing of the Rushden depot of the Gimson Shoe Machinery Company. Officials of the branch stated that it had been reported in the local Press that situations would be found at the Leicester works for the Rushden employees, but that was incorrect. No such offers had been made, but all employees had been informed that if they made application to the “Welfare Department” of the firm’s Leicester depot, such would be considered. [The above statement of facts is confirmed from official sources. Editor, “R.E.”]
